Hawaiian Culture-- Tying it all together

1) Iolani Palace

Iolani Palace is the only official palace in the US. Taking the stroll through the palace, we get to immerse ourselves into the Hawaiian history. Walking through the chambers, we get to listen to the audio tour on what happened there. There are some horrific events that happened throughout the history. We went to the chamber where Queen Liliuokalani was imprisoned. It is horrifying listening to her memoir about her experience being overthrown by the people she trusted.

Prior to the imprisonment, the reign was ruled by King Kalakaua. It was fascinating being able to enter the place of where he ruled and hosted guests from other countries were interesting. One thing that really fascinate me was the architecture and arts that they exhibited in the room. The paintings were a mixed of romanticism and modern art. The amount of gold being used enhanced the vibe and created a royal atmosphere. Despite the short audio tour, we learned more Hawaiian history there than anything we've learned before our departure to the Aloha state.

2) Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor was a powerful monument. We all learned about the World War 2 and how the United States was involved in the act. It all started out with the bombing at Pearl Harbor by Japan. When Japan attacked the United States, the following day, the United States declared war on Japan. Prior to our boat tour on different memorials for each battleships, we watched a video on the attack. The video talked about the attack and Japan's strategies. It was quite an overwhelming emotional video highlighted different events throughout the history.
